Class 103 Update

Hello Parents of Class 103,

I hope everything is going well for each of you and your families.  I spoke with Ms. Z yesterday and I wanted to pass on some updates for the class.

1) Class Art Project - Friday, Feb. 4th
Next Friday, Feb. 4th the class gets to have a fun art/painting project for their class reward in earning 25 pom-poms!  As it will involve paint and all the students, Ms. Z was hoping we could have between 4-6 parent volunteers that could come in and help out.

Please email me back by Monday (the 31st) so that I can let Ms. Z know who will be in, and that we have enough volunteers.  Thanks!

2)  Friday Mystery Reader
Starting on Friday, February 11th - Ms. Z is setting up a Mystery Reader program, where parents or invited family members can come into the class and read a special book to the class.  You can wear a mask, or have some other kind of disguise to add to the fun of being the Mystery Reader!

Important information:
* Start time: 11:45am (to read for about 10-15 minutes)
* Choose a book that is a favorite of your child, family or that might relate to a theme that the class is studying, or an upcoming holiday.
{ex. the class is currently studying Fairy Tales or Valentine's Day for February dates}
* Please be sure the book is age appropriate and not to long to read in about 10 minutes
* Email me back a date that would work for you or someone in your family to come and read with the class, and we will put together a list of dates for February and March, and then work on dates for April and May closer to that time frame.
* If the Friday time absolutely does not work for you, please let me know and depending on parent needs I can talk with Ms. Z and see what other arrangements might be made.  I can't promise anything - but we can try to work to get everyone to come in by the end of the year.

Upcoming Dates are:
Friday, Feb. 11th
Friday, Feb. 18th
*Friday, Feb. 25th off - Mid-Winter Break*
Friday, March 4th
Friday, March 11th
Friday, March 18th
Friday, March 25th

3) Class Donations!
If each family can remember to send in $5 for February to cover the cost of extra material supplies and party supplies that would be much appreciated.

And for any of you that have baby wipes that you can send in ASAP.  If you have a spare package, and could send that in, it counts towards your February donation - please just let me know so that we don't purchase more than necessary as a class for her.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to help in whatever possible.

Enjoy the playing in the snow and drinking hot chocolate with your child(ren)!

Best,
Summer Lord

Publishing Party for Class 103 at the Roosevelt Island School (P.S./I.S. 217)

Students in Class 103 proudly shared their work on creating non-fiction books.  "Snakes" and "Dolphins" seemed to be the most popular topics, other young authors focused on "Birds", "Sharks", and "Penguins".  Children did a fantastic job putting together catchy introductions, creating diagrams, and learning to do literature research along the way.  Thank you to all the parents and Class 202 students who came and read the books!

PS/IS 217 Winter Concert & Gift Basket Raffle Tickets

To PS/IS 217 Families!

~ You are invited to ~
 PS/IS 217's Winter Concert
Thursday, December 9th at 5:30pm
It will be a special evening with songs from our Kindergarten-2nd Grade Students
and musical instrument performances from the Upper Grade Band Students.

We also have 2 fantastic fundraisers during the concert!
Raffle for multiple Gift Baskets *  AND *Bake Sale *

As there are many things to update you about for the event, you will receive emails during the week regarding the specifics and needs for the Bake Sale and also an opportunity to volunteer for helping students line-up and get on and off the stage.

THIS email is only about the Raffle!  We are in need of:
* 3 volunteers with children in grades K - 2.
3 volunteers with children in grades 3-5.
***Donations of $5 for Gift Baskets due by this Friday, Dec. 3rd

Volunteers are needed to help sell the RAFFLE TICKETS before and during the performances.  We are splitting the age groups so that parents of older children will volunteer during the time that the younger one's are performing and then vice versa.  This way everyone can see their child perform and not miss those precious moments!

Volunteers from the older grades will be at the Raffle Table from 5:15 - 5:45 PM, and will then be relieved by volunteers from the lower grades who will volunteer from 5:45 - 6:15pm.  Both blocks of time are only a half-hour - it's a quick time frame to volunteer and help out with this great fundraiser and to help the school!

Please contact Kristi Towey at kristi.pta217@gmail.com to let her know you can volunteer and what time slot you prefer, or for any questions regarding the Gift Baskets.

Also, please find attached the flyer that was sent home via backpack.  We encourage each family to donate $5 that will be used towards the purchases for the Gift Baskets.
Donations are due by THIS Friday!

Thank you,
Kristi Towey
